WINNERS! Take action for aquatic life competition

Thursday, June 17th, 2021

Thank you to everyone who entered our ‘Take Action for Aquatic Life‘ competition.

We were blown away by the submissions in this competition, and choosing our winners wasn’t easy. It is wonderful to see so many kind kids who are passionate about keeping aquatic life safe and our waterways clean. Congratulations to our winners and to all those who entered!

Our four prize pack winners are:

Jayne from Canterbury, wrote a letter to our Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern. Jayne asked for more protection of endangered Maui dolphins in New Zealand.

Caitlyn, from Waikato, collected rubbish from a popular costal walkway to stop it getting in to the sea and harming marine animals.
Kaitlyn, from Queenstown, made a fantastic poster showing simple ways we can all protect ocean animals. She then put copies all around her neighbourhood. Great way to spread your message Kaitlyn!

Lilly from Auckland emailed her MP Chris Penk. She demanded that more of Aotearoa’s coastline should be protected as Marine Reserves, meaning more fish are safe from fishing boats.

Check out the ‘Protect the Ocean’ prize pack!

We have our winners!

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021

Thank you to everyone who entered the Action for Greyhounds Competition. We had some incredible entries!

Our six winners, who will each receive a Garmin Vivofit Jr 2 smart watch, are:

Violet – 8

I started a petition to ban greyhound racing. I saw some Auckland Blues and All Blacks rugby players so I asked them to sign the petition too. I’m still working on getting lots more signatures.

Hannah – 9

I made a poster to help stop greyhound racing. I hope you enjoy it. I learned a lot about greyhounds from the Animal Squad newsletter!

Mahi – 9

I wrote an article along with a picture I drew. It tells about why greyhound racing is hurting them. Greyhounds are caring, gentle and loving. I am trying to convince my parents to adopt a Greyhound because we could give them a loving home.

Madelynn – 9

I wrote

Pet me don’t bet on me #bangreyhoundracing

on the driveway in chalk.

Bella – 10

I wrote a poem about how wonderful greyhounds are and why greyhound racing needs to be banned in New Zealand.

Katiya – 10

I sent a card to Aaron Hawkins, our mayor, and Jacinda Ardern asking them to stop greyhound racing.

Congratulations to our winners and a big thank you to all those who entered. Together, we can ban greyhound racing for good!

Check out the rest of our amazing entries!

Thanks to everyone who entered the animal photography competition. We had over 400 entries!

We considered each photo carefully. Every single entry showed us a glimpse of just how much you love animals.

Our six winners, who will each receive a prize pack, are:

🐶  Angus – 6

My dog sleeps in my room on a bed I made for her out of boxes and she likes it. I love all animals. My Dad says we have no more room for more rescue animals but my Mum thinks we do.

🐶  Charlotte – 9

This is my dog Toby. He is 12 years old but still acts like a puppy! My mum helped me by running with Toby so I could take this photo.

🐱  Freya – 10

This is a photo of my kitten Oreo. I am vegetarian and I love animals. I tell everyone not to hurt or eat them.

🐦  Aaliyah – 12

I’ve enjoyed photography since I was little. At the moment I love taking photos of birds, especially around my house. There’s so many different ones.

🌊  Matthew – 13

I took this photo in Kaikoura on my way to Picton. We stopped to visit the seal colony.

🐶  Briar – 13
