Animal Profile

Lifespan

Cats live for around 12 to 15 years.

Eyesight

Cats have incredible vision and can actually see better in the dark. They can even see in near-total darkness.

Teeth

Cats have small sharp teeth, designed for snatching up mice and other small animals. They are most likely to be hunting at dawn or dusk.

Speed

Cats are quite speedy and can run at over 50 kilometres per hour.

Paws

Cats sweat through their paws to cool themselves off. They will pant if they are too hot.

Bites and scratches

Cats can bite and scratch hard enough to break skin. This may be because they are frightened or just playing a little too roughly. It is important that you get an adult to help you clean the wound thoroughly to prevent any nasty infections.

Did you know?

Cats will purr when they are feeling content but also when they are stressed or hurt. Cats are masters at hiding their illnesses or injuries so it is important to consult your vet if your cat friend shows any change in behaviour.

Catnap

Cats will sleep for an average of 15 hours per day. They do this to conserve energy for hunting.

Did you know?

Cats love to groom themselves. They can spend up to 50% of their waking life grooming! They do this to keep themselves clean, reduce their scent so they can remain undetected from predators and also to keep their fur watertight by evenly spreading natural oils.
